Failed To Keep Appoinment

My boiler has stopped working so I arranged an appointment between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. I had to leave work early and cancel arrangements to be there. At 6.45pm I received a call from the plumber saying he was stuck on the other side of London and was over an hour away. and his sat nav had let him down etc. He said he hadn't been given any details of what the job was and asked me to explain it (just the pilot light not igniting) and then said he doubted he could fix it on the spot. To me it is probably one of the most basic and frequent problems a boiler has so him saying he couldn't fix it was a red flag. I told him not to worry but I wanted him to come over anyway to look. He then texts me at 8pm and says he's still stuck in traffic and then tries to rearrange. I strongly suspected he wasn't telling me the truth (when he said he was in his van on the M25 I could hear no background noise and he was asking me if I had children etc, I suspect as I said no he wasn't bothered. I rearranged the appointment but subsequently cancelled after reading the barrage of awful reviews this company has received on line. I just don't trust he will turn up and suspect they may try and rip me off even if they did make an appearance.
