Electronically locked trunk with battery in the trunk

1

The positive cable of the battery was disconnected and the trunk was closed. Access to the trunk is only electronic and since the battery, where it gets its power for the electronic lock release of the trunk, is also in the trunk. Therefore, if the battery is disconnected there is no access to the trunk! Even if connecting the positive cable under the hood and the negative it will not work since again the positive cable is disconnected. I think this is a major design flaw and in some cases also a safety issue. It is essential to have a manual way of opening the trunk with out the need of the battery! It is only a nominal amount to put on an expensive luxury vehicle! User's recommendation: Do not close the trunk with a dead battery! Make sure not to disconnect the positive cable and disconnect only the negative. Try to make sure you have another way of accessing the trunk with disconnected battery and let BMW of North America to know this needs to be remedied!
