Econotek Communications in NYC is a rip off and sucks

Its been almost an hour and the internet once again down in our office on 65 Broadway in New York City. Yeah almost opposite the NYSE and the entrance to wall street from Broadway. Would sound like wow! Near wall street, must be rocking. But here is a telling example as to why this whole wall street and finance world is full of scamsters out to make money through ways that are just extortion. this area is full of greedy, make-a-killing-any-which way operators, i guess. As they say, NYC financial district is at the heart of the capitalist world; Beholding the beacon of Capitalism, a shining example of choice and customer is king! Sorry there is NO choice here. The whole building (65 Broadway) has just one vendor that provides Internet and phone service; Econotek Communication (see their mission here - http://www.econotek.net/allabouteconotek.htm). You cant get Telecom services from any one else! Period. And whats the price - a $75/mth for one spotty T1 (read ***) line. When i say ***, i am really doing it service because almost every night now without fail the Interet goes down around 10-11pm or more like 10.20 pm on fridays (today). And you would think you can call customer support and get some help - sorry - this is the land of capitalism, of choice and consumer power, with the NYSE exchange right next door representing the flagship of capitalist economy. But sorry, these concepts are alien to the building management and to the Econotek guys. And here is their corporate website says the following "Welcome to a company that has good reason to pride itself on customer care and satisfaction. " That is a Joke!!! You call in the day - no one answers - you call at night, no one answers. The site goes on to say, "There's an alternative to the existing monopoly, and as our customer we'll never make you wait for the help you need." That is an outright lie! The building doesnt allow any other internet operator besides Econotek Communications. So much for choice, in America. Every month without a fail they send they a check of $75/mth for this *** service. And when you get the service installed they charge you $75 for some setup fees. Hail to the stewards of the financial world. Hail to the capitalists who who set up systems in which you have no choice - you are forced by the building management to get this *** Internet. I guess the Econotek guys figured, 'hey most of the companies in this building are struggling and because no body really works here late night - lets just pull the plug on the internet'. Who cares? Hello! We do. We work long hours well into the night and even morning. Does any one know what we can do to fight this blatant extortion in the name of 'preferred vendors' and 'management rules', etc. Any consumer agencies that will take this up. Anyone else having similar issues? Dont let such scam companies get away. Consumer power and choice should win over such clearly pathetic companies, surviving on purely monopolistic practices.
