Drobo S – locks up PC’s

We bot a Drobo S, from week one our PC was locking up on boot. When we discovered it was the Drobo causing the issue, we contact Drobo tech support w/in a few weeks of our original purchase. We sent dozens of Drobo Diags & a few PC diags to Drobo. We changed the boot and Bios settings in the PC's. We even hooked the Drobo S to other PC, running XP-pro w/SP3, Win 7, XP Home. All 3 PC's fail to boot properly w/the Drobo hooked up using USB 2.0 (extensions removed). We left it sit for days, no boot up till we unplugged the Drobo S). We installed 7 different HD's in the Drobo S, one or 2 here, another 1 or 2 there till we now have 7, 1 and 2 TB HD's. No matter how the disk packs were arranged (mix or match) the PC's still locked up on boot. We updated the Drobo firmware and dashboard a hand full of times. Drobo replaced the Drobo S one time, they gave us the same firmware & dashboard. All PC's still locked up. We discovered a common denominator... When any pc we hooked the Drobo S goes to sleep or a pwr save mode AND the Drobo S is set to default settings, "10 min spin dn". Drobo denies the claim. When we put the Drobo S in "never spin dn" the boot issue goes away. We have to listen to 5 HD's spinning full time and waste our power to solve a glitch in what appears to be a communication glitch when connected devices power down. After a year of the garden stroll, drobo then pulls the ignorance card and now fails to return our calls, out communication thru the Drobo web site get no reply (yes we mark the "reply" button but nothing. We call Drobo and hear "well have Lee call you back" weeks go by. no return call. When we did hear from Lee, he offered a 20 % discount on a Drobo 5d. We asked what if the 5d does the same thing? Lee said, "I'll check on that and call you back". The weeks tick by. Drobo techs claim they have no idea why the Drobo S is causing delayed or boot freeze. We believe Drobo may have some idea what the issues may be. But Drobo S being discontinued, XP is obsolete. Customer service went down hill after the 1 year mark and we have no interest in spending $700 to $1000 to buy a new Drobo every year because they are unable to, or choose not to correct known issues is unacceptable. We feel Drobo needs to take care of the customer epically when the problem was made known w/in a few weeks of the purchase and Drobo dragged tech support out 18 months. The last 6 months have been mostly BS.
