Don’t Live Here

1

***Save yourself so much frustration and anxiety by not moving here!***I am currently in my third year of living at Miller Estates and in my second apartment here. The first year was ok. I could tell these were older apartments and the landscaping and maintenance could use a lot of improvement. There was (and still is) so much dog and cat *** littered around the complex. They have a colony of feral cats that use patches of dirt as their litter box. And there a LOTS of patches of dirt because the grass does not grow in many areas of the apartment complex. And people do not pick up after their dogs and are not forced to. You have to keep your eyes on the sidewalk while you are walking to avoid the *** someone has stepped in and smeared across the sidewalk. If that was it, I could handle it and be ok with living here. But there is so much more…it's going to be a long post so stick around. When I first moved into my apartment about a month in my water heater did not work. I was without hot water for three days before it was fixed. I called each day and walked over to the leasing office each day to ask when it would be fixed. Finally the third day I interrupted the leasing agent during a meeting with another tenant and demanded to know when my hot water was going to be fixed. A maintenance guy was there with in the hour.My first apartment also had a leak from my upstairs neighbor. Their water heater leaked into my living room basically. The first (yes the first) time this happened they were reasonably quick in responding. They got someone in there to vacuum up the water and place fans on the carpet. But what they found out is that the piping/wiring had my water heater connected to the second floor and the second floor connected to me on the first floor. I thought they fixed whatever the problem was, but apparently not. Because I had another leak. This was eventually cleaned up. Then it started leaking again but when I brought this to the leasing office's attention nothing was done. Then I got a notice from them stating that I couldn't renew my lease on that apartment because they wanted to refurbish it. So about two months later they found another apartment for me to move into, and then they finally addressed the leaking issue. My "new" apartment had upgrades. Very cheap upgrades. There is a rip in the vinyl flooring that they just glued back down, there are paint streaks and multiple spots that they missed. The cabinets still stick. The fan was coated in dust, I had to remove the blades and soak them in the sink to remove the dust. So many things…But hey I'm a pretty easy going gal and up until this point the management has been kind and reasonably easy to work with.I would like to point out at this point that a notice had been put on each door stating that smoking was only allowed away from the buildings. This was not enforced in any way. Neither was keeping patios or landings clean enforced. People have junk sitting out on their patios and in front of their doors. Some apartments honestly look like hoarders live there. But anyways back to the importance of the no smoking notice. I have asthma and after this notice came out I reported a few of my neighbors that would still smoke on their patio. Nothing was done about this. Or the neighbors I suspect were smoking inside of their apartment because my apartment always smelled like smoke . But I happened to have a bad asthma attack one night, I managed it through the night and it was getting better by morning. I walked outside that morning right into the smoke from my neighbors and my asthma kicked in again bad enough that I had to go to the emergency room and get a breathing treatment done. Not fun or cheap. They have new management and people working in the office now. Different people from when I first moved in and enjoyed working with. These people have no customer service skills. I work in this industry and am constantly amazed by the lack of skills they have. I walk into the leasing office and get ignored. One time the new manager Jared was at his desk with the door closed. I could hear him clearly through the door. I waited about 5 minutes to be polite and let him finish his business. When it was still going I knocked on the door, he paused in his conversation and then continued to talk and did not acknowledge me at all. All I wanted to do was drop of my rent payment! I wanted to give them money! I knocked again and called out "Hello?". I was once again ignored and I could actually hear him get up and move further away from the door. There are many instances where this same type of attitude is displayed. And don’t even try and call the office because they won't answer or listen to any voicemail you leave. Unless they are expecting a call about rent or late fee's. Which brings me to my final complaint, but certainly not the last of the complaints that I could list. This Saturday I walked to the leasing office to pay my rent for March at about 3:40 pm. They close at four on Saturdays. No one was in the office and the door was locked. There was no sign on the door indicating if someone would return or why the office was closed. I would have waited or come back if there was a note indicating this. I wasn't about the leave an almost 900.00 dollar check, slipped under the door. So I called and left a voicemail stating I was there ready to pay my rent but no one was in the office. The next day (Sunday) I receive a notice on my door stating that my rent is late, I owe a late fee, and I have three days to pay or vacate. I was honestly flabbergasted. They couldn't have someone in the office during their posted business hours but they could have someone working on a Sunday when the office is closed, and give me a late notice? I left another voicemail on Sunday about this.So Monday morning I go over to the leasing office and speak with Jared the manager. They still haven't listened to any of my voicemails. I explain the situation and turn in my full rent check. He states that he will see what he can do about the late fee. I get a call today (3/8/18) from the assistant manager asking what I would like to do about my late fee. I re-explain everything and get the snottiest attitude back. No compassion, no moral responsibility about them not being in the office to take my check. I was told "We aren't required to put a sign or anything on the door when we step out of the office." "The third day of the month is grace period and you should really pay your rent on the first." "There are other ways you could have paid rent and should have tried this." (I have paid my rent online so many times and their system never pulls the money out and I always have ended up paying with check. And the manager Jared knows about this issue.)I'm just at a loss…I have never worked with a leasing office like this. All I can say is I'm getting out as soon as I can and don't recommend anyone else moving here.
