Dont be surprised by sub standard nursing care.

I just spent 80 plus hours in your St. Louis facility. I was appalled by the way by the lack of professional behavior of the nursing staff on numerous occasions. I feel I am more a honest judge of such as I am a 30 year ICU MSN. I trained at Barnes and spenf 8 years in the RICU there. I then spent 11 some years in the NICU at Childrens hospital. I completed my career at Cardinal Glennon in the PICU. All but about a year at the bed side. At childrens I was clinical coordinator for the NICU. A position that allowed me to attend meetings Including all the top management. So dont bother trying to *** me. I was, at times, quite dismayed by your Staffs lack of a prompt response to repeated request for basic nursing care. Some of your staff were observed laughing as an elderly woman, suffering a delusional episode, had to be restrained by security. Who, by the way, acted quite professionally. Sad to say you nursing staff did not. I have the witnesses name and number to confirm this. My quandury is do you address the problems with your staff or do I involve the State Board of Nursing ? We both know. Whether my charges are substantiated or not. They still appear on your record. I, as a professional Medical person, suggest retraining for the staff in lessons that reflect basic humanity, a solid work ethic and a more caring attitude. Nursing is more than just a job. It is one's vocation. F.D.Wheeler RN BSN MSN3
