I recently purchased a Subaru Outback at Kinney Motors in Rutland, Vermont. The reason I purchased it was the fact that the brake line failed in my 2002 Outback, a car that gets little use but that nearly scared my wife to death when she went to stop it. I went to trade the car in towards the purchase of the new Subaru, but there was a problem with the title so I could not be paid. I was told to get a re-issued title so sent out an application for same. Three days later I became aware of the recall and the fact that Subaru was willing to fix the brake line for free so I contacted Kinney to ask them not to sell my 2002. For three hundred dollars I thought the car could serve some useful purposes on my 103 acre property. I was told the car was already gone. Then four days ago with recall letter in hand I returned to Kinney with the title and found out that the car was still in their back lot. Since I still owned the car and had not received any money for it. I told them that I would prefer to have the car returned to me with a repaired brake line. I was told that I could have the car but only if I paid 742 dollars. I have purchased six of the eight Subaru's that I have owned from the Rutland dealership but must ask if this is any way to treat a customer who is far less than satisfied at this time. Michael E.
