Do not buy a pet from Petland of Davie

1

My 18-year-old daughter is a freshman at a college campus near the Petland of Davie store. She lives on the college campus in the dormitory and is a full-time student-athlete working a few hours a month waiting tables at a local restaurant for some pocket cash. She recently lost her mother to cancer and was on campus for the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, she was feeling lonely and decided to visit a local pet store, Petland of Davie, to interact with their dogs and gain some comfort for herself and hopefully for the dogs. From there, she was taken advantage of by the staff at Petland of Davier and sold a $4,000 dog plus the recommended food and accessories. My daughter does not have the $4,800 that she was charged. In order to sell her a $4,000 dog, the staff at Petland of Davie likely told her that the dog could get approved as a service dog to be allowed on campus, falsified her income to get her a $9,000 credit approval, and told her that she could make monthly payments on the store credit card. What she was not told was that by the staff of Petland of Davie, which is located near the college campus, is that having a non-service dog in or adjacent to the dorms would result in a $100 fine and disciplinary action for each occurrence which would put her scholarship and athletic eligibility in jeopardy. She should not have been granted such a large credit limit as an 18-year-old full-time student which would have prevented her from making such a large purchase. The minimum monthly payment amounts and associated interest expenses were not detailed to her before making the purchase. The staff at Petland of Davie took advantage of a vulnerable 18-year-old college freshman who has had a difficult last few years by selling her a dog that she can not afford and is not allowed to have in her dorm. Upon learning of this occurrence, I went to with my daughter to visit the Petland of Davie store in person. I asked to speak with the Store Manager and was told they were not on-premise. I asked to speak with the Store Manager over the phone and was told she did not want to speak with me but would be in the store in two and a half hours. I was told that they would not accept any returns nor offer any refund or credit of any kind, and was advised to call a customer service line at Solutions.pet. I called Solutions.pet and requested a Supervisor. I was told that a Supervisor was on the other line and would call me back. I then called the phone number on the associated Petland credit card. I reached a foreign customer service rep who transferred me back to Solutions.pet at which time I did speak with a supervisor who advised me that she could not assist. After being unsuccessful in trying to communicate with the retail store directly, the store credit card support, and the Petland customer support, I am forced to share my concerns here in the hope of a fair and appropriate outcome. My daughter can not under any circumstances bring a dog that is not a pre-approved service dog when she returns to the dorm for her next semester at college and does not have any savings or income to pay for this dog. She should not have been granted the credit limit to purchase the dog in the first place, nor should she have been taken advantage of by the staff at Petland of Florida. Please work with us to return the dog and associated items before the next semester begins on January 6th, 2020 in exchange for a refund for the full cost of the pet that we will return. We will compromise to cover the costs for the dog food and treats and such that have been consumed. We appreciate your understanding and compromise to assist with resolving this situation in a timely fashion. Thanks, Mr. Rand
