DIscrimination/Denied Service/Being Threatened

1

Update by user Aug 22, 2020 So far the company has done nothing to resolve the matter except *** an employee's bad behavior. Apology not excepted! Original review posted by user Jul 21, 2020 On 7/19/20 at approximately 07:45 am I arrived at the Arco Mini Mart located at: 934 S. Grand Ave. Glendora, Ca 91740. I went inside and scanned my lottery tickets cashed a ticket for $8.00 and asked for $ 5.00 on pump number #7 a man came into the store and I told him to go ahead of me because I needed to still buy some lottery tickets. After the man left out of the store, I proceeded back up to the window and stated to the clerk that I needed 10 quick pick numbers on Mega Million and before I could finish the rest of my sentence, the clerk became hostile and stated" how many transactions are you going to make" and I stated" as many as I need. The clerk then told me that I'm not going to give you anything and began to scream and yell for me to get out of the store. I then asked him why he was refusing me service and pulled out my cell phone to video the incident. The clerk, then stated, I'm going to call the police on you. At that point another man walked into the store and heard what was going on and began telling me that this same clerk has also refused service to him as well for no reason and that if he does not want to work, he should not be there. The clerk again began to yell & scream at both of us to get out of the store and threatened to call the police. In which, I told the clerk I'm going to call the police myself and dialed 911. This was since I could clearly see that he was not going to really call the police and have to explain his behavior. We both walked out of the store proceeding to our vehicles where I pumped my gas. I did speak to a dispatcher and stated what the problem was. The man had to go to work and I had a car full of groceries after getting off work myself. I told the police dispatch that we did not need them and I would follow-up with the corporate office. I'm a professional person and was still in my nursing scrubs at the time of this incident. It appears to me that the clerk has issues with certain people. I'm an African American woman and the other customer appeared to be of Hispanic descent who also was dressed in professional attire. The witness did give me his name and phone number before pulling out of the gas station. Now keep in mind that I spend at least $30-$40 every week on lottery tickets for my job's lottery pool and get gas on a regular basis that your company will now lose. The real question is... How many other people have this happened too? Calling the police on someone who has done nothing wrong, could turn deadly for a person of color. That is why I pulled out my cell phone to record. I did take a photo of a white Pathfinder parked next to the building. The license plate number was #6GKK158. I think swift action needs to be taken against this employee, and he is fired immediately. I did also call the 1(80*) 322-**** on the same day with no response yet and have filed a compliant with the BBB. I'm sure that there are cameras showing what happened and do not feel safe going back into this business. I think my rights have been violated. Here is the information off the gas receipt: ARCO6643**** ST# 66433 TILL XXXX DR # 1 TRAN # 101**** CSH:6 07/19/20 07:53:21 User's recommendation: AVOID THIS BUSINESS.
