On 9/6/15 my wife and I spent the entire day negotiating a deal on a 2015 KIA Soul. Firstly we agreed on a price of $16, 500 down from the sticker price of $18, 100. Secondly, they offered to include free maintenance contract. The rest of the day was spent getting the payments down to affordability. It started at 16.6% (which is ludicrous) and ended up at 3.3%. By the time we signed the stack of paperwork we were exhausted. For this reason we fell victim to the shell game of signing the contract without reading the numbers. They were very diligent in pointing out other details of other paperwork we signed but we signed the contract without even seeing the numbers. As a result we did not notice until a day and a half later, when we looked at our copy of the contract, that they did not reduce the price from $18, 100 to $16, 500 and they also charged us $1095.00 for the FREE maintenance contract. I called both the FInance Manager and the salesman four times but they were always "out" and would return my call (which they did not) so I finally sent them each an email with my grievances. I contacted the State Attorney General's office who referred me to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles who advised me that, since I did sign the contract with the $18, 100 price and the $1095 maintenance charge and had nothing in writing to substantiate my story, things would most likely not go my way. I do plan on being very vocal about this unethical business practice so that others will not make the same mistake that I made. Always keep in mind that car salesmen are NOT honest and you can NOT take them at their word. They will sleazily change the numbers on the contract and attempt to get you to sign them without reading them.
