deduction of tax & returning of cheques

2

My mother Mrs. Rajalakshmi Srinivasan, a widow aged 78 years, has (1) savings account( Ac. No. [protected]) with Naigoan Post office near Dadar, Mumbai. Her cheques were returned thrice by the post office, each time for want of sufficient balance and the entries in the pass book have also been changed on more than two occasions. Each time the banks have charged her for transactions because the cheques bounced. Making wrong entries in the pass book is entirely the fault of the post office. Why should the senior citizen be penalised for it? Will the post office finally give the correct balance and the reasons for changing the same? The person responsible for this callous behavior should be punished. All returned cheques and pass book available with us as proof. (2) She had also deposited Rs. 2 lakhs under the Senior Citizen Saving Scheme and the quarterly interest was being deposited in account No. 8200401 at Mukhya Dak Ghar, Dhanama Buvan, Mulund (west) Mumbai. She was getting Rs. 4500/- every quarter and duly submitting form 15H/G every year, till November 2009. The deposit matured in Nov.2009, and at the time of paying the principle, the ASPM (SB) deducted Rs. 2627/- towards tax in spite of submitting form 15H/G from the principle amount. In-spite of requests that once form 15H is submitted by the investor who is a senior citizen no tax should be deducted at source he did not care and after repeated requests issued form 16A to claim refund from income tax department. I would request the competent authority to redress the above problems and help the senior citizen and issue necessary instructions in the matter. revathi subash
