Declined check

I purchased some sporting goods at store in my hometown and decided to write a check for the purchases instead of using a credit or debit card. To my surprise the check would not be accepted so I paid cash and was told that Centegy declined to authorize the transaction. My credit score is over 810 and have never in my 64 years wrote a check that did not clear. The only information that Centegy would provide via phone was that it was not because of negative credit concerns, but of some profile status, but the check still would not be accepted. I understand being careful and appreciate the fact that a stranger could not write a check on my account, but there needs to be a system where intervention is available once identity and credit worthiness are established so you don't have to walk from the store feeling humilated.
