DECKMASTERS TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (PGH, PA) TOOK OUR MONEY AND WON’T COMPLETE THE PROJECT!

Update by user Sep 23, 2012 Well, after contacting the BBB - Deckmasters has taken steps to correct some of the issues, but some continue to drag out into September and probably will now go into October. The Attorney General's office has been contacted and I took it upon myself to contact Fiberon regarding their response on the multiple issues we are having with our deck. Unfortunately, the Fiberon representative indicates poor workmanship as the root cause of these issues. When a response is received from the BBB and the Attorney General's office, we will share that information as well. At this time, the deck still doesn't have a chair on it since they started this project in June. We continue to wonder how can this company possibly be called Deckmasters -- Here is the Fiberon response: 'Thank you for contacting us with your concerns for your Fiberon railing material. While we understand your desire to have a representative to view your material in person, we do not have representatives that do this type of thing. Also, we can tell from the pictures what the issues are and would like to address each one for you. Picture (29): The end of the rail is either not cut true and even, or your posts are not installed plumb and true. Picture (4 ): Angle cut is not correct. It appears that the very outside of the cut (to the left most side of the rail) was cut too short. Either the saw jumped, or the mark/cut was not made correctly. Picture (11): Rail is not centered on post either because the post isn’t positioned correctly, or the rails was pushed too far over. Another issue is that the post sleeve is not installed on a 4x4 post as required, but has 2 – 2x4’s inside of it. This is not a recommended application/installation. Picture (30): Looks like an issue with the saw. If the saw does not have enough “teeth” to make the cut neat and clean, it can “chatter” the material at the cut. Please let us know if you have any further questions. We have multiple issues of poor workmanship, safety concerns, and mis-use of parts and materials that are fully documented in punchlists and photographs. Including decking boards not nailed down and are now bent in fifty ways at the end of the deck, miter joints you can place a screw in, and misuse of hardware for this Fiberon product to only name a few problems. Honestly wish I could load all of the photographs. Issue and photographs have been both emailed and mailed via US postal service to the Corporate Office managed by Pat Nicholson (proud owner of this Pittsburgh, PA company) that we found as an exhibitor at the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show in March. Mr. Nicholson avoids all calls, emails -- but did sign for our return-receipt-requested letter mailed 7/17. DeckMasters has received 95% payment and the project work is NOT nearly 95% complete. As of 7/26 we still have not heard from DECKMASTERS about a final walk-thru of the project (as is documented in the DECKMASTERS contract). Last evening, we documented the 'DECKMASTERS' company sign was pulled from our front lawn. Do they intend to complete the project? When do they expect to return? When will the final walk-thru take place? DECKMASTERS has been paid $10,322 and all that remains is $470. Does DECKMASTERS intend to walk away? Seems that way, doesn't it? We called Project Manager, Mike Davin, multiple times this week for confirmation on the intentions of his work crew going forward, but have heard nothing. It has been 35 days since project inception and DECKMASTERS needs to take corrective action on the punchlist items and complete the project in full as agreed upon in the contract document. At the contract signing, Davin stated this project was to be a 10 day timeframe, finished in time for 4th of July. The summer is 2/3 over and we have yet to place a chair on the deck. Our deck lighting and landscape contractors have been pushed back so far due to these issues we doubt they will be able to reschedule us in 2012. Are we mad? You bet! Fully documenting for everyone to see the work and know the type of contractor Deckmasters really is.
