Customer Service needs more money before service is rendered

TiVo recently sent a software upgrade that turned on the screen reader function and after visits to online help then multiple calls to customer service their solution required us to upgrade our existing cable box, leave a sizable deposit until the existing unit arrived back to them and an increased monthly fee. Their solution was consistently piece meal and always requested some sort of deposit or return shipping costs from me the customer. The last solution was to ship us an upgraded box that would cost us more money and required a large deposit to secure the return of the existing cable box that did not work properly after the TiVo software upgrade. After refusing any more costs on our part and long on-hold calls TiVo customer support agreed to ship a new cable box with no extra costs, BUT did not agree that this would fix the problem TiVo created in the first place. Customer Service does not exist with TiVo without some more money coming from the customer has been my experience.
