Premature rear brake wearout

1

I have a 2006 Honda CRV that I had bought brand new. At approximately 40,00 miles (2012) grinding in the back became noticeable. Upon inspection by a mechanic it was determined that the pads were shot. Now it's 2016 and another 50,000 miles and I had to replace the pads again. Note that I just changed pads on the front @ 95,000 miles. Is this a pressure issue where there is too much contact between pad and rotor? Since it was past the 36,000 mile warranty there was no use in pursuing it. I bought the Honda figuring it was one of the better built units on the road, although I have only one other incident with a CV joint boot which needed replacing @ 95,000 miles.
