DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR A LARGE MOVE!!!!!

I was planning to move a whole house of approximately 4,000 sq ft. D&D was contacted and Dan came out to gather information about the move. The move was to cover all furniture, laundry room, 1 refrigerator, and boxes. Additionally, a packing crew was to arrive a day before the move to pack what my wife and I could not. The walk through with Dan took only about 10 minutes. When the quote came in, it included all the items I wanted. He included 150 boxes to be included with the move. The first issue was the packers. While they were good in what they did, I was informed that boxes provided by the company were being billed separately and were not included in the quote. A closer review of the quote indicated that while the packers were in fact included on the quote, if they packed a box provided by D&D, the charges were very expensive. Small / medium boxes were billed at $10 each. Large boxes and wardrobes were billed at $20 each. By the time, this was pointed out; I was $810 over the estimate. I contacted Dan about this and his response was they were audited by TxDot and they were following accepted practices. That’s really great……(sarcasm). He was useless…. The next issue was the equipment. I was expecting a large moving van such as an 18 wheeler, given the amount to be moved. What I got instead was a 1 ton Chevy truck with a goose neck trailer. This setup was quickly overwhelmed by the volume of the move. A discussion was held to determine what to do…..I checked the quote and discovered that additional trucks and equipment was not included in the quote, so even more expense. I told them not to get the truck, just get the furniture on board, so we could at least get this done. To continue this nightmare odyssey, the loaders were basically the same as the packers. With the addition of a young high school boy and one other person, this team began loading the trailer. There was no loading plan provided, it was all a “best” guess as to what went on the trailer. These people had no clue as to what remained in the house when it was all said and done. Further, the loaders seem to lack basic tools for disassembly of things like the washer and dryer. One of them was attempting to disconnect the water lines on the washer with a pair of electrician’s pliers. All he accomplished was to scrape the brass on the hose fitting. I provided his a set of “Channel” lock pliers. They didn’t have even a pocket knife to use. Additionally, they were clueless on how to remove a refrigerator from the utility room. After about 30 minutes of watching them, I showed them how to remove it. They could figure it out. It was frustrating to say the least. Finally, when the team finished loading the trailer, they simply stopped. They did not bother to consolidate any remaining items in a single location; boxes and furniture were simply left where they stood. Most boxes had some form of ID on them, at least what room in which they were packed, but many had no indication of what was in them or who packed them. The remaining boxes and furniture, I moved by myself using a 26’ U-Haul truck. This took 2 days of back breaking work and about an additional $450. This is far cheaper than paying D&D to mismanage. In the end, D&D claims on their web site to provide a unique customer experience….and they did. It was one of the most frustrating, aggravating, and disappointing experiences I have ever had. They may be fine for small moves, such dorms, offices, or small apartments. But for large whole home moves, use a big name company, such as Mayflower or Allied. They may cost a little more, but they are worth it. This was a joke and it was on me. Customer relationship management was extremely poor. It must have been obvious to Dan this kind of move was totally beyond his company’s capability, yet he took the order anyway. These people do give a good flip, except to get a check. As John Pinette would say….D&D Movers, I say NAY, NAY. Patrick Brown P****************@yahoo.com
