Charged fees never explained
I have a LIRA that wasn't performing particularly well, which a BMO advisor noticed. I do all my banking at BMO and was impressed with the returns their investments were making so decided to move my LIRA to BMO. Unbeknownst to me, I was hit with a bunch of fees totaling several thousands of dollars for moving my LIRA to another institution. My BMO advisor had indicated that there shouldn't be any fees so I was shocked when I found out. When I later talked to my BMO advisor they explained that although it's not technically illegal, it's highly unethical what they are doing by charging fees to move investments. These fees were never explained to me and I'm currently in the process of reading through every document they've ever given me with a fine toothed comb to see if it's in them somewhere. Although I'm pissed, I'm also happy I got out when I did judging from the other stories on here. I also know that with the better returns I will be making now, I can recoup some of those fees lost. In addition to this, I also had bad customer service, similar to other stories on here about how you can never get a hold of your actual advisor, they keep switching advisors on me, and the only person I ever get to talk to is the assistant. Horrible company, would never recommend to anyone.
