Chalk it up to experience ….
2
This was a long distance move, 2000 miles; and my first experience hiring professional movers. My initial contact with Colonial Van Lines was fine... all of my questions were answered; and I felt fairly comfortable. They did show up when they were scheduled; and they did deliver to my new address on the day I expected them… And both crews were very hard-working. However, I was never told they are brokers; quite the opposite, I was led to believe that everything would be loaded onto one truck; and would stay on that truck until it arrived at my new address; and all would be handled by Colonial. Not true... apparently, loaded and unloaded several times. Many items are missing, and several more are broken… the boxes I marked “fragile” appeared to have been tackled by a group of angry gorillas with baseball bats. The agent who was supposed to stay in contact with me during the pick-up and the drop-off called from time to time; but never when she said she would; and never returned my calls....seemed very disinterested in anything I had to say. She asked me for a list of missing items so they could be tracked down...I gave her the list more than once; a month later, nothing has been returned to me; in fact, she told me that several of my missing items were probably never put on the truck. I was present for the loading process; and they were all definitely on the truck… As a matter of fact, many of the missing items were packed by the moving crew; and many were parts of things that did arrive ( A floor lamp, only the shade arrived; part of a bedframe, the rest of the bed arrived; part of a floor fan, the rest of the fan arrived; part of a quilt rack, the rest of which arrived.) My daughter’s flute has disappeared; dishes were broken; armoire doors ripped off the hinges. At this point, I don’t expect any satisfaction from this company… But I have learned! It was an expensive lesson.
