Center went out of business with my money!

2

We signed up in Sept of 2018 for $4,000 paid on the Tuition First credit card. Center went out of business, literally closed shop and disappeared overnight. They owe me services or money. I called Sylvan Headquarters for a remedy and I received an email indicating that the Center owner is strictly responsible to me, the consumer for any refunds, and they gave me his name and email address to contact him. He has not even acknowledged my email . I think HQ is incorrect here. They should be responsible for the usage of their name. We signed up for a "Sylvan" center not a JOHN SMITH center. It is their name that I relied upon when I prepaid a year of service. This is the same as going to a McDonald and being feed ill prepared food, because the local store had not been properly prepared. If I eat at a McDonald I have an expectation. If i sign up for Sylvan, I too have an expectation. The corporate HQ should ensure the Centers have sufficient funds at any given time to be able to cover customer advance payments. The money is unearned revenue and needs to be returned. I was very satisfied with the center in terms of learning for my son. Not satisfied with the loss of my money! I called Tuition First, and they said I till owe them the money as the funds are transferred to the owner in full each month. Hence, unearned revenue. HQ - where are you in the accounting of unearned revenues? Don't the centers perform and provide financial reports and data to corporate monthly?
