Card error

Husband received a gift from his brother and could not get it to work, so passed it along to me. I tried to get balance online and received an error message. Called the 1800 number and received a message that the number was invalid. When I was finally able to reach a human, I was told that the card had not been activated correctly. I was told that if I had the receipt, that they could send me a replacement. When I stated again that the card was a gift from brother-in-law, I was told that I could open a case, but that the case would not do any good without the receipt. I was then asked if I wanted to open a case or try to get the receipt. When I asked what was the purpose of opening a case if it would do no goos without a receipt, I was simply asked again if I wanted to open one... Pretty much talked in circles. Pretty pointless. I guess that is $ down the drain for my brother-in-law.... and a lesson to check a balance/ activation immediately for my husband.
