Cancelled tickets

In July I purchased 2 tickets with Lufthansa, received confirmation from them about the flights, everything seemed to be ok until I received an email from them stating that my flight was cancelled, no further explanation only that is unsurtain times.Tried to call, waiting more than 2 yrs on a few attempts. Finally I spoke to their representative who told me I will need to pay the difference which in this case is $1100. for 2 tickets. Initially I already paid $2580. Why my tickets were cancelled no one explained, or why I have to pay? User's recommendation: I don't know what to recommend,as I still have no answer from Lufthansa.
