Put a very large downpayment on a premium lot during the winter months in Chicagoland (Not a good time to sell a house). Was based on a contingency. House didn't sell and they would not extend contingency even though all the lots weren't sold and they were building "quick move ins" to make it look like they were selling like hot cakes! We had asked to have minor adjustments to the floor plan- sales agent didn't think it would be a problem. Came down to it - they wouldn't do it. It became obvious that they didn't want us there. The prices had changed and they wanted to sell this premium lot at a higher rate. They told us that we could proceed without the contingency but if we didn't get the loan approved we would lose the huge down payment. We knew they were crooks and would have the mortgage company deny us so they could keep the large deposit! CON ARTISTS!!!!! Promise the world, but will steal it out from under you. Oh, they then said we could always come back when our house sells-which will probably be within the week. Why would we do that- it know costs more money! I wouldn't trust this builder!
