Booked a motel in bar harbour maine and then found out it was cancelled but money taken out of charge card

On 07/12/2016 I booked a room thru Hoteling to Harbourside Hotel and Marina in Bar Harbour Maine. 1, 693.59 $was taken out of my American Express. I called Motel to check on reservation as the school I am attending couldn't find my name on list. Motel said it had been cancelled but I got no notice or refund.
