Be prepared to be treated poorly

1

They treat renters like the *** of the earth. If you live in a building as a renter, be prepared to get treated like garbage. The landlord tenant laws and building code apply to all residents of a town. But, if you rent, it seems otherwise. Thank God the law allows me to remain anonymous to protect myself against retribution. Being that the Chief Operating Officer for Cagan, Michael Daniels, is quoted as saying: "We are finding that the residents are becoming emboldened, as they have no need for personal interaction and email and text conversations seem to make people more demanding," he said. "The Google search engine makes them experts in everything and Yelp reviews are held as a hammer above your head." Can you blame me? Here is the complete article. Like, I have a chance in *** talking to that guy about problems in the building. https://www.rejournals.com/articles/2014/03/cagans-daniels-apartment-propert Nice way to refer to your customers, pal. Well, I decided to consult with a landlord tenant attorney and they gave me some options outside of litigation. They also explained the consumer protection laws that would allow me to redress grievances. So, I went straight to the building department in my town to file a complaint. That agency lets you report anonymously so you don't have to worry about reprisals from the landlord or management company. They send out an inspector who surveys the problem(s) on the property. After confirming the violation, they order the landlord/management company to correct the problem within X amount of time or get penalties, varying from fines to declaring a building unfit for occupancy. It's no joke. Keep records in case you need them for willful and wrongful withholding of your security deposit. But, if you don't take action, you can't get justice. If you have a complaint, I was told to also consider filing a formal complaint with the state of Illinois at this link: https://www.idfpr.com/admin/DRE/DREcomplaint.asp If these guys don't receive bona fide complaints against their license, they can keep doing what they are doing. It's very sad to see all the reviews here of people who claim to have been treated horribly. Bottom line, Cagan, if you are not going to treat your customers with respect, you don't really deserve to be in business, do you?
