Baker College, not a college at all

1

I regrettably transferred to Baker College of Cadillac from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. My degree was in Business Admin. Baker refuses to accept the majority of incoming credits so that they can profit from making you take all of their worthless courses, and their outgoing process to another school is much of the same. My biggest complaint in regards to the classes themselves is the way they are taught. You almost always have a mix of online classes (by choice, which looked good for telecommuting purposes), but whether you attend the building or online, THE TEACHERS DO NOT TEACH. Everything copy and paste, read chapters and do a discussion. YOU PAY TUITION TO TEACH YOURSELF. The online courses are incredibly worthless. You read chapters and discuss them with fellow students. Points are given for making comments on other´s remarks on the reading. Any questions regarding the material are answered by the instructor telling you to refer to the course syllabus. The actual classes are slightly more structured, but still in the same vein of teaching yourself. It is more than obvious that the staff is underpaid and do not fully grasp the content or have any passion whatsoever in actually helping you learn. At the end of my time here, I was forced to drive from Cadillac to Fremont, MI for a 1 HOUR seminar in which student exchanged and read each other´s mock resumeś, which is beyond me why this could´t have been done at the home building. My entire ¨education¨ here reminded me of high school. It has been many years since I attended here, but I was driven to write this review because my girlfriend is currently experiencing the same pain after resuming her education that was paused due to our daughter being born. It will take her several more years to complete a 4 year degree, while she has 4 years of classes already completed. I would recommend, by any means necessary, that you explore and exhaust all possible options for further education, and if this is the only choice, research in depth the program you are choosing to attend and what the outcome is. Thank god, I used my degree only for one year, which at that rate of pay would have taken me over 15 years to pay off my tuition. I used that job to switch positions and ultimately transferred to a company where i now make over $80k a year, albeit in a completely unrelated field. I am hoping my girlfriend can finish and the promise of employment is fulfilled. Once again, there is nothing here worth doing except possibly the medical field, which still does not offer top positions within, going as far as I believe an R.N. (by no means a bad job, just be prepared to teach yourself the whole way, and attend far more years than originally stated.) Best of luck, I hope this review steers someone away from the mistake I made.
