Bait and switch by thedigitalhunter.com

About The Digital Hunter -thedigitalhunter.com Here is my experience with this company. I wanted to order a Nikon micro 60mm 2.8 G ED lens on line at this company's website and also wanted to order a battery for my D90 .The website has no specs whatsoever for any battery except regular or high capacity, so I phoned them up and told the salesman that I wanted a battery and lens. The sales person said, quote "the lens I was ordering was not a good choice for my camera model as it had a plastic mount and they had a new Sigma 50mm macro lens ($500 special offer) that was about to be released at the end of Sept. that was much better with a metal mount". I changed the order, he then said that they had a high capacity battery with a 5 hour life and he would give it to me at the same price as the regular battery that was on a two for one offer. So that was my order. I then went on line to find out about the lens I had ordered and found nothing except the 2004 Sigma 50mm lens at $359, so I phoned back to cancel my order, stating that I could get the same lens much cheaper. The customer service person then said that the lens was new, not yet released, had 22 elements, was made in Japan and was a PE (Professional Edition) so I let the order stand. I had a lot of misgivings at this stage and started to check everything out by first contacting Sigma. Sigma's reply was that there were no new 50mm macro lenses in their product line and that they have never had a PE designation. I had not had an e-mail invoice by this stage so I phoned the digital hunter again, they had the incorrect address despite spelling everything out when I placed my order! I got the invoice and then contacted Sigma again to confirm that the lens the digital hunter had sent was not in their product line. They confirmed that the only 50mm macro lens on the market was the 2004 model; in addition they stated that the Digital Hunter was not an authorized retailer. I contacted the Digital hunter to find the capacity of the battery I had ordered and was told it was 2500mAh. I phoned Nikon and a local camera store to find out if there were any 2500mAh batteries for a D90, the only 2500mAh battery for a Nikon Camera is the EN-EL4 at 11.1v, the D90 camera battery is an EN-EL3e at 7.4v . The lens in my package was the standard Sigma lens and the battery a standard Nikon1500mAh battery. It is obvious now what a mug I was, but The Digital Hunter has lied about the lens, and the battery. Now I am finding out how difficult it is to return anything. When I called customer service to get a return RMA I was told I had to e-mail my request for a return, which I have now done after several e-mails were returned. But I have to wait 3 days for a reply since the "return department " has very restricted hours and operates only 4 days a week, and my e-mail went through on a Friday (very convenient for them). I phoned the customer service person again on Monday and explained that they had made a mistake and sent me items that did not match what was on the invoice and what they had described to me. The person was extremely rude and started arguing with me, telling me I did not know what I was talking about and that what they had sent was good .They then offered to exchange the lens for the one I had originally wanted to order ( the only way they knew this was if the person I was talking to was the first person I spoke to a week earlier). The lens I wanted advertised at $350 was not available but a there was one at $599, when I demanded the one advertised they said it had to come from Japan and would take 2 weeks to obtain. The Digital Hunter has deliberately mislead me and sent me a lens that does not match the description given by the sales person or on their website, a regular battery instead of a super high capacity one and they still make out that it is my error and that I have to comply with their return policies. These are designed to discourage any returns by charging huge fees for "restocking," and insurance yet the package I received was not insured, and I have to pay the return postage. I don't see why I should be penalized when I have been a victim of their illegal bait and switch techniques.
