Bad fuel pump floater

Every time the car gets to 1/4 tank of gas, it doesn't want to start. So I removed it and the tank is completely empty. The fuel pump assembly is show I have a 1/4 tank of gas, but it's really empty. Been having this problem since two days after I fill it up. I kept having to put gas at a half of a tank. Something is wrong with the assembly or floater.
