Bad business ethics
*SOLVED

This company came recommended from someone in my family. They did an 8 x 10 patio in which they charged $600 and had it completed in about 3-4 hours, so i had no hesitation in calling to get a bid on my patio. They came out the same day I called and looked at the space. I have a backyard that is small and it had no patio before. They gave me an estimate for 10 x 31 with leveling (because I had grass that has been there for 6 years and was very strong) All together they charged me $2,450.00. I had to pay half up front, which was fine because i know most contractors ask for that. When they left they told me it would be Wednesday before they could start and they would finish in 2 days, this was a Thursday this annoyed me a little, but i understand if they are good then they are busy. By the way they weren't busy doing concrete they were passing out phone books as a side gig?? This was red flag number one but I had paid them $1,200 so at this point I was locked in. On the Tuesday before they were to start work, I called them just to make sure they were still going to be there. They said they would be there before 9am. They did not show up until 10:30, red flag number 2. Red flag number 3 came right after that when they left for the day at 1:30!! They only completed the platform and asked to use MY mower to cut the grass short so it would be easier for them. Asking to use someone personal property is not good. On Thursday they showed up mid-morning and finished one section of concrete. On Friday they called me at 7:30am and said that it might rain so they weren't going to be there until Sat. I said okay and hung up. They showed up at my house unannounced at 1:00pm that day.. thought they weren't coming. Anyways i guess they figured they could get in as much as they could before the rain started... it never rained. They stayed until dark which is good but the reason why is because they "forgot" about a vacation they were taking and they wouldn't be back until Monday! So Monday rolls around and they show up at mid-morning to finish the job. Once they completed the last section of concrete they asked for payment and said they would be back in 2-3 days to tear down the framework of the platform. Not only did they not show up (what a surprise), I called several times and they never answered. My boyfriend and I had to go out and tear it down ourselves. So the moral of the story is they did an okay job on the concrete but they lack good business ethics. DO NOT HIRE THESE GUYS!
