back of watch has melted

My wife and I each bought a swatch watch at Edinburgh airport on 9th September 2016. This is my second swatch and the first watch is still in good condition. Whilst my wife has had no problems with her watch, the wrist band on my watch broke within several months and in addition the watch appears to have practically melted on the back. I took it into the Swatch retail outlet in Edinburgh and paid to have a new wrist band fitted. The staff said that I would have to take it back to the store in Edinburgh airport to report the issue of melting on the back. We therefore waited until our next trip from Edinburgh on 4th September 2017. We were told by staff there that we had to take the watch into the retail outlet in Edinburgh. So, very disappointing to be given conflicting information. I am therefore writing to you in the hope that you can resolve this issue.
