Avoid Etihad Airways

1

BOM to AUH &; AUH to ORD The service was horrible throughout my journey. I had a Surgery on my knee and had requested WCHC. 1. Poor Phone customer service (Medical Assistance)-I filled all MEDIF forms and gave all required documents. i did not get any replies from Etihad. I contacted them multiple times and after multiple phone calls found out that they had sent an email (which I never received) for more documents. After the email was resent- i submitted the additional document and I received the Approval letter. 2. My Approval letter said that "More legroom space was to be assigned" based on my medical condition. No seat assignments were done. 3. No wheelchair service was available in Mumbai (BOM) airport from the gate. I had to go on crutches till checkin area to find assistance to get me on wheelchair and get my luggage. 4. My Assigned seats were 51H / 51G on both the flights (which does not have extra legroom for my medical condition). 5. After I escalated the matter in Mumbai Airport- they adjusted my BOM to AUH seats to 20 (which has extra legroom). Even after escalating- they were not able to adjust the seats on AUH to ORD (which is a 15 hour flight) citing that they do not have permission and I need to check in Abu Dhabi. 6. Abu Dhabi- the ground staff says that they cannot adjust my seats and all seats are sold with additional charges. I had a Medical certificate from Etihad which said to assign more legroom seat. The staff also asked me to sit in airplane with my leg in the aisle. What does he know of my medical condition and sit with no legroom for 15 hours after a Ligament surgery. After I fought a while and asked to escalate it to his Supervisor- the Supervisor swapped some seat with some other person. It was really disheartening to find that Etihad airways cannot provide basic Medical accommodation requirement and has a Broken system. Etihad is only after money and selling seats for money. As a medical requirement- seats must be assigned beforehand after medical case has been approved. Even inside the flight- cabin crew had poor service. I had 30-40 minutes wait after pressing the call button to get an attendant to help get my bag or crutches. This was extremely bad experience with Etihad. Providing Medical accommodations is a basic requirement for any airline.
