AVIS Made my Brother LATE “FOR HIS OWN FUNERAL”.
One year ago.. my brother passed away. And with my parents being very elderly, I was doing the arrangements.. my brother was cremated and I was entrusted with his ashes. His wishes were to be spread in the family plot in Oklahoma.. two states away. My Ford F-150 could not handle all the members of my family that were going to attend some of which were flying in. I was an Avis Corporate Customer, and arranged for a car via Avis to be picked up at the airport. And when I arrived at the rental counter with my brother's ashes in hand.. they denied me the vehicle. Why.. I had a valid license, a credit card, insurance that covered me in a rental car.. NO.. because they had instituted a new policy that said I had to have flown into the airport.. not pick up more people there. I got nowhere with the rental counter or the manager there.. and a call to AVIS customer service (after waiting 45 minutes on hold) got arrangements to get a car an another AVIS Location 15 miles away.. (FOR $250 more than I had ALREADY PAID). I get to the other location.. (person there was understanding), but THEY HAD NO CARS.. a car had to be transported from the Airport I had just been denied services at which took all day (it was the fourth of July Weekend).. I got the car a day late and therefore my brother was LATE FOR HIS OWN FUNERAL.. When I complained to AVIS's corporate management (customer service) I got a partial refund of my overcharge and nothing even close to a sincere apology. And I only got that by threatening to bring this event to the press.
