Allianz travel insurance – pathetic customer service

I had purchased the travel insurance while booking a hotel. However, for medical reasons, I had to cancel the trip. I called customer service to submit claim and gather information. Their representative advised that I can file claim online and at a later time, at my convenience. Turns out I did a mistake by not submitting the claim right away. I filed claim 3 days later. After 2 days of filing, I was asked for additional 'PROOF' that I was really sick. Apparently your word doesn't count and if you did not see a doctor, they decline your claim. Even after I called 2 times, and explained to them that I did know that it is must to have doctor's visit to file claim, no one was willing to hear. Guess this gave them a way to escape honoring their side of this insurance. WHY WAS I NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS MANDATORY REQUIREMENT TO HAVE DOCTOR'S CONSULTATION FOR A MEDICAL CLAIM, BEFOREHAND. I was made aware when I could do nothing. This behavior is really unprofessional. What is the point of selling insurance if you are not honoring your side of it.
