In March of 2017, my wife and I purchased a used motor home. We made the mistake of not personally viewing the RV (looked through multiple pics and videos) and purchased it with an extended warranty through Interstate Svcs. When we received the RV (two weeks late) there were several questionable things ie. the plastic covering on the carpet was hopelessly glued to the carpet and could not be separated and showed a great deal of dirt underneath, the generator seemed a bit shaky and the wiring was not perfect. A few months after purchasing the RV, we brought it to the local dealer for servicing and changed out the carpet, etc. The cosmetic fixes were about 12000 dollars and the mechanical/electrical bill was about 6000 dollars. Though I assumed the warranty would not cover even the mechanical/electrical problems, the dealership turned in a claim. A representative from Intertate came to the dealership, investigated and the company paid 4512 dollars of the 6000 dollar expense. I was quite surprised. I believe, after researching consumer reviews/complaints that many times warranty companies are wrongly accused of fraud or misrepresentation. These companies are covering expenses on vehicles that dealers sell with problems present before warranties are initiated. It clearly causes many ambiguous and tricky judgement calls. In most cases, the consumer is returned a pro-rated share of unearned premiums if they are dissatisfied with a warranty claim, so it is quite a difficult conundrum for these warranty companies and I was both pleased and surprised with our experience. It was rather unexpected, especially after we read dozens of reviews as the company investigated our claim.
