$2000 were lost because they did not cancel my ticket

I have booked a ticket through Sudha Travels to travel to India. 10 days before my intended departure date, my plans changed and i had to cancel the ticket. I called Sudha Travels and left them a message and I sent an email asking them to cancel my ticket. After the travel date, they contact me telling that they did not cancel the ticket and i were to lose the 2000$ paid towards the booking. When i tried to discuss the matter with her, she just hung up the phon and would not take any more phone calls from me! Worst ever customer service and if you need any reasonable amout of service from a travel agent, stay away from Sudha Travels!!!
